Money saving tips, how to save money in recession and in good times, too:
Ask for a reduction in the interest rate on your credit cards. Credit card companies sometimes are willing to reduce the interest rate. Ask to speak with a manager and threaten to take your business elsewhere.
Do Not pay for banking privileges. There are too many free checking options out there to pay one cent in fees for the right to write a check or use a debit card. Shop around until you find a bank that is convenient for you. There are many online banks, as well.
Carpool with a coworker, especially if they live close to you. Pick them up and take them home this week, and next week let them to return the favor. You will both save money on gas and prevent less usage of your car.

Rent out unused space in your home. Perhaps you have an extra bedroom that's not being used ... Rent it out.
Brown bag your lunch. Instead of going out to eat at work, take your own lunch. Save money.
Pack food before you go on a road trip.
Drink less alcohol. It costs money and ads calories.
Drink tap water, skip the Coke.
Buy generic. Forget brand loyalty when trying to save money.
Turn off the television. One big way to save money is to watch less television.
Write a list before you go shopping - and stick to it. Otherwise you will end up buying more than you initially wanted.
Properly insulate your home. Very important in the summer and winter months, when the extreme temperatures outside can affect your temperature inside and cause utility bills to skyrocket.
Buy a used car, and drive it until they break.
If you really want a new car, look for reliability and fuel efficiency. And keep it as long as it runs.
Switch to compact fluorescent bulbs inside, and solar lighting outside. CFL bulbs use much less energy than incandescent bulbs, and give off less heat.
Buy generic ink cartridges. Yes, buy generic on as many products as you can.
Cut back on meat. Meat is expensive. Plan vegetarian meals several times a week (think pasta or chili).
When grocery shopping, if there's a sale, stock up. Sale items can be a great deal. If it's an item you normally use, buy many of them.
Sell your clutter on eBay.
