Cheap Date
One of the cheapest dates a couple can enjoy is a romantic walk. Active cheap dates allow the two of you to enjoy a beautiful place together, which do not require spending lots of money.
Go to the beach. The beach can be a fun day or evening out, and can be done for little money. You just need towels, sunblock, a couple of bottles of water, some munchies, and a good book or magazine.
Go for a hike. Hiking only requires a pair of comfortable and sturdy shoes or boots, bottled water, and you can even take a picnic basket to add to the romance of the hike.
Watch the sun set together. Romantic sunset
Play a sport together. Go to your local recreation center and sign up to play a sport together. It's fun.
Go out for dessert and coffee. It's less expensive than buying dinner, but with the same ambiance.
Wine shops often have free or cheap tastings on certain nights.
Call local museums and historic sites to find out about free tours and events.
Visit the local music store and pick up the latest hot dance CD (maybe your kids can help you choose). Buy a few snacks and plan your own party later that evening.
Window shopping. Visit antique stores, big toy stores or great used book stores. Unless you find something you love, you don't have to pay a cent to look!
Go on a coin-flip date. After meeting downtown or on main street, you and your date decide whether to go right (heads) or left (tails) by flipping a coin. Every time you stop, flip the coin again to determine the next direction.
Have a "Tech-free" night. Turn off your cell phones, computer, the TV, and the lights. See what's left to do without electricity. Sing old songs, have a pillow fight, recount stories of how you met, plan for the future.
Have a home spa. Create a home spa for the evening. Put on soothing music, light some scented candles, play your favorite music. Relax and enjoy each other's company, or give each other a good massage.
